Obituary-Grau
Anna Elizabeth Grau, nee Bietz, was born on January 7, 1863, and died on November 26, 1941, having arrived at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 19 days. Her birthplace was Dreihausen, Kurhesse, in Germany. Her parents were Johannes and Margareta Bietz. She was baptized in the church of her parents at the age of four days. After she had completed the course of religious instruction required of all members of the church, she was admitted to communicant membership by means of confirmation on April 8, 1877 in the same church to which she was baptized. She left her home county in 1883 and came to America. She was already engaged to Henry Grau before she left her home, and 12 days after she came to Hickory Grove in Nemaha county, Nebraska, they were married on April 29th, 1883. In the spring of 1886, she and her husband came to Phillips county, Kansas, where she made her home with her family on a farm in Mound township until about 14 years ago, after which she stayed with her daughter, Mrs. Henry Badenhoop. She leaves to mourn her departure, three sons, Henry, Theodore and Conrad, three daughters, Margaret, Mrs. Fred Hesterman; and Katharine, Mrs. Henry Badenhoop; all residing in this vicinity; also 11 grandchildren; and one brother, Henry Bietz, living in Oregon. Interment was made in the cemetery of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Stuttgart on November 29, 1941.
