George W. Shively - Dies at 99
Funeral services for Macon County's Oldest Man, George W. Shively, 99 year old Wheatland township farmer who died early Saturday in his home, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Dawson &
Wikoff Chapel, with the burial in Boiling
Mr. Shively would have been 100 years old, tomorrow, New Year's Day.
In 1859, he came to Decatur in a covered wagon and settled near Stevens Creek and Harristown. Ten years later, he bought a farm near Elwin and had lived there for the last 70 years.
He cast his first vote in a presidential election for Abraham Lincoln.
On January 1, 1861, he married he married Elizabeth Wright, in Harristown. She died in July of 1909.
Mr. Shively had been a member of the Elwin Methodist Church since 1874.
He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Clara Egbert, of Los Angeles; a son, C. B. "Bert" Shively, rural route 2, Macon; three great-grandchildren and five grandchildren, including Mrs. Guy (Fleta) Purdue, rural route 6, Decatur, with whom he had made his home for the past year.
