Caryll Jane

(Briar) Eltiste

Caryll Jane Briar, daughter of George Irvin and Clara Ellen Silence Briar, was born on August 16, 1921 at Brock, Nebraska. She was assisted into the world by Dr. Moell and her grandmother, Mrs. Andrew Jackson Silence. At the time of her birth the Briar family was living in Howe, Nebraska where the father was working

for various farmers.
The family moved to Nemaha in 1926 and it was here that Caryll Jane started to school and graduated from High School in 1939. He father, who was custodian at the high school, died on August 19, 1936, from a heart attack while working at the school. The Briar family faced difficult time following his death and had a hard time making ends meet.
In 1938, mother Briar moved to Auburn, Nebraska where there was more work. Caryll Jane remained in Nemaha and stayed with her brother Lowell and his wife Faye. Lowell had taken over the job as custodian of the school after his fathers death. She did this to finish her schooling and while there she worked part-time at a restaurant operated by Bill and Matilda Anderson.
Upon graduation, Caryll Jane went to Auburn to live with her mother. It was here she met and married Warren Kenton Eltiste,

son of Herman A and Ethel H Eltiste, on April 8, 1941

at Maryville, Missouri.
The newly weds made their home in Auburn where her husband worked at several different filling stations. At a later date the family moved to the home of his parents on a farm between Auburn and Johnson near the town of Rohrs. While living here Ronald Gene was born on January 23, 1944. Soon after his birth the family moved back to Auburn where her
husband worked for the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Co., as a grounds man. While living here Diane Lynn was born on

November 23, 1945.
World War II was in full swing at this time and her husband was drafted to serve in the United States Army in 1945. He served 14 months and was discharge on August 6, 1946. Her husband returned to his job with the telephone company in Auburn.

While here another son, Warren
Kirby was born on January 7, 1949. Kenton was transferred to the Nebraska City area in 1954 and later to Weeping Water, Nebraska, where they lived when Caryll Jane's mother passed away on December 10, 1955. In 1956 the family moved back to Nebraska City where her husband worked for the telephone company until his retirement. It was here the children grew up and attended school.

While here another son, Jay Scott, was born on June 24, 1960,

and whose life was taken away on June 25, 1960.
