Scarlet Fever Fatal To

Mrs. Phillip Schoene

Mrs. Phillip Schoene died at her home seven miles southwest

of Cook, on Tuesday night of this week, following a

short illness with scarlet fever.

Mr. Schoene and other members of the family are also sick

with the disease and the home is under quarantine.

It seems that one of the their sons contracted the disease while

away from from, but knew nothing thereof until taken down

after returning home. His mother nursed him back to health

and later was stricken with the malady and it soon proved fatal.

Burial occurred Wednesday afternoon but owing to the nature

of her affliction no public funeral service was held.

Mrs. Schoene was well known in Talmage and vicinity and the

news of her death was a severe shock to her many friends here.

All sympathy is extended the family in their hour of severe trial.

Phillip Schoene died at the family home, seven miles north and

three and a half miles west of Cook, some nearer Syracuse,

being in failing health from three to four years.

Phillip Schoene was born in Lee county, Iowa, April 4, 1857.

He was united in marriage with Miss Barbara Hahn, on

April 28, 1891, and four sons and one daughter were born to

this union. They are Harry K., Elmer H., George P, and

Arnold J. Schoene and Miss Matilda M. Schoene who survive

him. His wife preceded him in death, having passed away

February 12, 1918. There are four brothers and four sisters,

as follows: Charles O. Schoene of Donnellson, Iowa; George E.

Schoene of Cook, Lewis E. Schoene of Brasher, Missouri,

and Adam Schoene of Syracuse; Mrs. Anna DeKalb of

For seven years the Schoene family lived six miles north of

Tecumseh, moving to the present home two years ago last

March. Mr. Schoene was a splendid man, of exemplary

character, and had many friends. The children and other

relatives have the sympathy of their friends in their bereavement.

Following short services at the home the funeral was held at the
