Leona Gerdes Dies

At Johnson Home

Leona Gerdes, 83, died June 27, 1994 at her rural Johnson home.

Leona Sophie Kaiser was born July 12, 1910 on a farm near Phillipsburg, Kansas. She was baptized and confirmed in Kansas congregations and received her education in Phillipsburg.

In 1929, Leona moved to Johnson. She was married to Francis (Frank) Gerdes at Zion Lutheran Church on March 5, 1935. The couple lived and farmed on the north side of Johnson. Her husband died on May 4, 1972.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and its women’s group, and of the Johnson Senior Citizens.

Surviving are a daughter, Lois Borutzki of Huntington Beach, California; three brothers and one sister from Kansas, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 1 at Zion Lutheran Church, north of Johnson, conducted by Rev. John Keller. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
