AGED RESIDENT HAS RECEIVED FINAL SUMMONS

Dietrich Bohling Passed Away at Auburn Hospital

Following An Operation Performed Last Sunday -

Deceased Was Well Known and Highly Respected

Citizen of This County.

Dietrich Bohling, one of the well known and highly respected residents

of this county passed away at the Auburn hospital at 6:45 o'clock

Tuesday, morning. Mr. Bohling had been in poor health for some

time and was taken to the hospital where an operation was preformed

Sunday. He rallied after the operation and seemed to be getting along

nicely until Monday night when he suffered a relapse and died

with in a few hours.

The death of Mr. Bohling removes a worthy citizen and one who,

during his long yeas of residence in this community had won the

respect and confidence of the people. The friends who knew him

and appreciated his good qualities as a friend and neighbor

sincerely mourn his death and extend their sympathy to the

surviving members of his family.

Mr. Bohling was born in Schwalingen, Hanover, Germany,

April 6, 1854 and in 1871, at the age of 17 years he came to the

United States and located in Cedar County, Iowa, where he

remained two years and then he caught the western fever so

prevalent at that time and went to California. He remained there

until 1876 when he returned to Nemaha county. In 1881 he made

a trip to his old home in Germany and after a visit of several

months there he came back and has since been a resident of

this county. By strict attention to the business of farming, by

thrift and honesty and industry he not only became a prosperous

and well-to-do man, but one who proved by his life that he deserved

the confidence reposed in him by those with whom he was associated.

He was married to Miss Wilhelmina Gebers in 1882 and ten children

were born to them. Mrs. Bohling passed away May 15, 1908 and in

1913 he was married to Mrs. Mary Rogge who survives him.

The surviving children are Mrs. Minnie Freiling of Smith Center,

Katie, August W. Bohling, Mrs. Lizzie Teten, Mrs. Emma Norvell,

Mrs. Augusta Norvell and Ernest Bohling of Auburn.

Mr. Bohling was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church

and remained a steadfast member of Hickory Grove church until

the time of his death. He practiced the teachings of the church in

his everyday life and demonstrated practical Christianity in his

dealings with his fellow man.

Funeral services will be held from the Hickory Grove church this

(Friday) afternoon at 1:00 o'clock conducted by Reverend Theodore

Streng assisted by Reverend John Streng and Interment will be

in Hickory Grove cemetery.
