Esther Sophia Goering

Esther Sophia (Bohling) Goering, daughter of Fred and Elizabeth

(Eltiste) Bohling, was born on a farm northwest of Auburn July 7, 1912.

One of four children, she was a lifelong resident in Nemaha County.

She received her early education at District 21 Linden Country

School and graduated from Johnson High School.

She was baptized, confirmed and married in St. Paul (Hickory Grove)

Lutheran Church.

December 14, 1932 she married Alvin Edwin Goering at Hickory Grove.

Three daughters and a son were born to this marriage. Esther was an

active member of Zion United Church of Christ in Talmage.

Mr. and Mrs. Goering farmed north and west of Johnson until

December 1969 when they moved to Auburn.

After their move, Esther worked as a nurse's aide in the

Good Samaritan Center in Auburn for one year.

Mrs. Goering had been confined to a Lincoln nursing home the past

few years, where she died October 2, 1999 at the age of

 87 years, two months and 25 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughters and

sister. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene and Boyd

Wakelin, Brock, Joyce and Dale Stukenholtz, Twin Falls, Idaho,

Carol and Gary Baker, Norfolk; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and

Judy Goering, Auburn; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren;

two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Helen) Gobber of Johnson, Mrs. Elmer (Hilda)

Adcock, Farragut, Iowa, other relatives and many friends.

Private family graveside services were October 4 at the Johnson

Cemetery, and a memorial service followed at Zion United Church of

Christ in Talmage. Reverend Barbara Thursby officiated at both services.

Grandchildren served as pallbearers.  Glenis Hopp was organist and

Marta Smith sang a solo.
