Golden Wedding

Was Celebrated

Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Brush Wed Fifty Years

Fiftieth Anniversary Was Observed At Country of

Home of Mr. and Mrs. Brush By Thirty Relatives and Friends

Gifts were presented to Honor Guests

Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Brush, who live near Auburn, celebrated their

fiftieth wedding anniversary Tuesday, February 22, which is also

the birth anniversary of Mr. Brush. In celebration of this festive

occasion thirty relatives and friends gathered at their farm home

in the afternoon to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Brush on their many

attainments during fifty years of wedded life.

The afternoon was spent in reviewing the activities of the years

gone by, and Mrs. Thomas Holloway, sister of Mr. Brush, gave an

interesting account of the Brush family history. Mr. and Mrs. Brush

then recounted the events of their wedding, which occurred

February 22, 1888 at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Root,

uncle and aunt of Mrs. Brush, with whom she lived at that time.

The wedding took place at the noon hour and following the

ceremony a lovely turkey dinner was served to sixty guests. Two of

the wedding guests, Mrs. Maud Fisher and Mrs. Robert Leeper were present at the golden wedding celebration.

The honored guests were presented a lovely rocking chair by the

relatives and friends who were present to pay their respects.

Additional gifts included, two beautifully decorated wedding cakes,

a birthday cake and a lovely bouquet of flowers, all of which

added to the spirit of the occasion. Light refreshments were

served at the close of the afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Brush have spent their entire married life in Nemaha

county, and have been connected with many worthwhile activities.

From the time of their marriage they lived on a farm in London

precinct until 1917, when they moved to Auburn. They made their

home here for three years, when they purchased and moved to

the farm one and a half miles southeast of Auburn, where they

still reside. They have one daughter, Mrs. Meddie Beaver,

who lives at Omaha, and three grandchildren, Ina, Maxine and

Esther of Omaha, and Eugene, who makes his home with his

grandparents.

Mrs. Brush, who before her marriage was Miss Ina Smith,

was born and reared in Knox county, Illinois. As a young

woman twenty years old, she came to live with the

Joe Root family, who lived near Auburn. Mr. Brush, the

youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Brush, was born in Lee

county, Iowa, and when a small child moved with his parents to

a farm northeast of Auburn, when he grew to manhood.

Among Mr. Brush's outstanding activities is his recognition

throughout southeastern Nebraska as an authority on corn. He

has spent much of his life in the study of corn improvement, and

his superior seed corn has always been in great demand by

progressive farmers. He has served faithfully in the agricultural

department of the Nemaha county fair for over thirty years, and

is considered one of the best grain exhibitors in the county. Last

year his precinct had the prize winning exhibit at the county fair,

and he was in charge of Nemaha county's booth at the state fair,

the first Nemaha county has had in many years. In addition to

honors won by the booth the greatest individual awards were

won by Mr. Brush on his prize seed corn.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Brush have many friends who hold them in

high regard, and were happy to congratulate them on their

golden wedding. The guests present at the celebration were:

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Miller, Mrs. Thomas Holloway, Mr. and Mrs.

Arthur Brush, Mrs. Maud Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leeper,

Mrs. J. I. Looker, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Benson and daughter,

Miss Millie, Mr. and Mrs. George Burdette, Mr. and Mrs.

Perry Waltz, Mrs. John Gergens, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Muse,

Mrs. William Ball, Miss Geneva Codington, Mr. and Mrs.

Arthur Oestmann, Ray Beaver, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Conner

and Mr. and Mrs. Gobinni.
